Intersections of Racial Justice, Immigration and the Criminalization of People of Color
Rev. Marvin M. Silver, Rev. Randy Mayer, Rev. Deborah Lee, Rev. Noel Anderson, and Rev. Linda Jaramillo
This workshop will focus on the importance of intersectional community organizing exploring the ways in which racism, xenophobia, mass detention, mass incarceration and the criminalization of communities of color are interconnected. Workshop leaders will share their experience mobilizing grassroots congregations to be part of social justice movements that include racial justice, immigrants rights’ and criminal justice reform. Concrete examples will be given from the Arizona-Mexico reality of border militarization and criminalization of migrants, the Central Atlantic conference work mobilizing congregations on racial justice, and the progress moving forward in Oregon and California state legislation on immigration and criminal justice reforms.
