How do we keep one another safe? How can congregations respond to conflicts and emergencies without relying on police? What do we do if our congregations are targeted for violence? What community safety practices can we engage in now that also help us build the world we long for?  We believe congregations can build an ecology of community safety that is rooted in care, investing in each other, believing in each other, and trusting each other and the rhythms and cycles around/within us.

In this training, the experienced trainers of the Liberating Lineages Collective will expand on our “Ecology of Community Safety” guide to offer practical skills, psycho-social care practices, planning tools, and analysis of current conditions, all towards practicing new ways of creating safety within our own congregational contexts without relying on policing.

Upon completion of this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Utilize skills & tools for assessing security of physical location
  • Employ psycho-social safety practices and share them with their congregations
  • Engage the "Ecology of Community Safety" framework as a planning and organizing tool
  • Articulate an understanding of the current conditions in which we are building collective, community-based safety practices
  • Continue to nourish their abolitionist imagination

Meet Your Guides:

Liberating Lineages Collective

Who are we?

Our collective is 6 white or bi-racial folks who are Christian, Jewish, and UUA; queer and straight and expansive in gender expression and identity; from a variety of class backgrounds; clergy and congregational leaders; and people with disabilities. We are a crew with decades of on-the-ground organizing, training, facilitation, teaching, and pastoral/emotional/spiritual care experience. We all love the earth and the plants and creatures and humans we are in community with, love good food and music, and love each other.

Our Mission

Through nurturing leaders and equipping communities for spiritually-rooted organizing, we aim to dismantle systems of white Christian dominance and contribute to movements that create a world rooted in safety, care, and abundance where all can flourish.
